Route A: Allen Road to 401 West to 427 South to 409 West

This is the default for Willowdale, North York Centre, and Yonge corridor pickups. Allen Road is the fastest surface-to-highway connection from mid-North York. You fully commit to highway speed at the 401 westbound ramp at Lawrence West. The 427 south ramp at the 401 interchange runs smooth when volume is low. At the 409 west exit, Terminal 1 is well signed. This route covers about 28 to 32 kilometres from Yonge and Sheppard. It is excellent at midnight. It is punishing at 8 a.m.

Route B: Highway 400 South to 401 West to 427 South to 409 West

This is the preferred route for Downsview, Yorkdale, Jane-Finch, and any address west of Dufferin Street. The 400 southbound ramp near Wilson Avenue skips the Allen Road bottleneck entirely. It merges into the 401 west of where congestion usually starts. The 400 and 401 interchange can slow on heavy mornings. But this route is almost always faster than Allen Road during peak hours for western North York addresses.

Route C: Finch Avenue West to Highway 27 South

We use this one rarely. It comes out mainly during major incidents on the 401. Finch west to Highway 27 south runs directly into the airport complex through the north side. It passes Carlingview Drive and connects to Airport Road near the cargo area. It is slower on a clear day. But it is reliable when the 401 is completely stopped. In January 2024, a full closure between the 427 and 400 was caused by an overturned transport truck. We rerouted seven vehicles through this path. Not one arrived late.
